Lach Sod Farms had its beginnings in 1955 when recent immigrants, Harry and Alice Lach, started cutting and delivering sod by hand. As more mechanization was adopted, the family business grew successfully, both in acreage and volume of sod harvested and marketed.
In 1986, the Lachs sold their business to the Wohlers family. Bo Wohlers continued to expand the sod farm to the point where it became one of the largest mineral sod farms in Manitoba. Sod was marketed to homeowners, commercial landscapers, and garden centres. Many City of Winnipeg landscape projects over the years were completed using Lach sod.
In 2014, Bo Wohlers sold Lach Sod Farms to the Tollenaar family, who are excited to carry on a 60 year tradition of growing sod north of Winnipeg. Their focus will continue to be to provide quality mineral sod to the Winnipeg and greater Manitoba marketplace. Quality from the ground up.
We are passionate and driven to produce a consistent supply of quality sod for the Manitoba commercial, landscape , and homeowner market.
